Another shot of my first 'base' worth of halberdiers. Levied for the Empress in Talabheim. Campaigning in the lowlands of the Stir.
The War of Three Emperors - known variably amongst contemporary chroniclers as the Long Anarchy, the Great Strife and the Ottilian Rebellion - had it earliest origins in the time of the First Emperor himself, Sigmar, the Chosen of Ulric. He, in all his wisdom, vacated the Imperial Throne without naming an heir apparent. Within only a few short decades since he formed the Empire, it faced its first constitutional crisis. The Counts, with only the example of Sigmar to guide them, chose unity over division and peace over a return to civil war. They elected amongst themselves the Second Emperor and set a precedent that would be adhered to for centuries. The weakness however, was there from the very beginning, and although it did not occur to scholars until long after the Great Strife began, the fault lay with Sigmar himself for his adrupt departure from the throne and his complete failure to leave, in writting, any instruction for the succession of the Imperial Crown. So when the precedent set by the first Elector Counts was tested for the first time after the assassination of Emperor Mandred - who left no heir - the Counts of the Empire discovered that the foundations of the Empire were flimsy indeed and ripe to collapse under the strain of ambition. There was, it turned out, no technical reason that could be found, why two men might not decalre themsleves Emperor simultaneously and no legal mechanism for resolving such a dispute - except war.
A whole new project for 2021, in its early conception. Themes of war, suffering, famine and desolation reminiscent of the Thirty Years War. The essential premise is to explore the War of the Three Emperors, an obsure event in the history of the Empire of the Old World. I want to combine Warlord Games Pike and Shotte with Warhammer fantasy battle and explore the great civil war that ripped the Empire apart and that was still ongoing as the twin-tailed comey struck Mordheim. Hope you stay tuned.
